Cannabis and Arkansas

Arkansas is in the process of legalizing cannabis for medical purposes. It has been laying out the framework. It set up a state medical cannabis commission to regulate and oversee the legal medical cannabis industry. It hired an independent consultant to review and grade over 203 cannabis dispensary applications and select the ones that met the review criteria. It selected 32 medical cannabis dispensary license winners and through the regulators notified them after the medical cannabis commission approved the selections made by the independent consultant. All this happened in 2018.

At least 35 US states have legalized cannabis for medical use so far. The federal US government however continues to keep cannabis in the Schedule 1 list of banned substances saying that it has no medicinal value. All these states have legalized cannabis for adult recreational use, aimed specifically at improving public health, ensuring equity,  reducing crime, decreasing the black market, improving law enforcement, reforming criminal justice, improving the economy, agriculture and industry, to name just a few reasons.
