Yes, Washington DC hosts the US federal government that made cannabis illegal in the country and pushed for world wide prohibition of cannabis through the UN and even today opposes the medical and/or recreational legalization that has happened in 48 US states. Yes, recreational and medical cannabis is legal in Washington DC. Talk about a government completely out of sync with its environment.

It is legal to possess and consume cannabis in Washington DC. However DC does not have legal retail outlets from where individuals can buy their cannabis so they most likely procure it from the black market. There is growing concern among lawmakers and confusion among the residents in terms of what is legal and what is not.

Well, if you are in DC then you are at the epicenter of world wide cannabis confusion, the place from which it propagated to all parts. Any surprises then that people here are as confused as everybody else with the federal US Government's bizarre cannabis laws?

 

At least 35 US states have legalized cannabis for medical use so far. The federal US government however continues to keep cannabis in the Schedule 1 list of banned substances saying that it has no medicinal value.
